Julio Flórez Roa (1867-1923) was a Colombian writer and poet, whose literary work developed within the lines of romanticism. Julio began writing his first verses at the age of 7. He published the books Horas, Oro y ébano, Cardos y lirios, Manojo de zarzas, Cesta de lotos, Fronda lírica, Gotas de ajenjo, Poesías and left two books unpublished: De playa en playa and Flores negras.

The lines of Mis flores negras belong to him. It is a pasillo that with popular music is widely known in all Spanish America and which was recorded twice by Carlos Gardel.

 

Gloria Serpa-Florez de Francisco de Kolbe 

 

Bucaramanga, Santander, Colombia, 1931

Gloria Serpa-Florez de Francisco de Kolbe is a Colombian columnist and literary researcher. She lived and worked for many years in Germany, where some of her short story books and the short novel El ojo de pescado were translated into German.
